OVERVIEW OF MOGYA REHABILITATION

Mogyas are a semi-nomadic community who live in the dry unforgiving state of Rajasthan. They survive the harshest of climates and sustain a very primitive lifestyle. Being a hunting tribe, they have been instrumental in poaching tigers in Ranthambhore. Jungle Lore works closely with Tiger Watch to help integrate Mogyas into main-stream society through an effort to find an alternate source of income for their families so that they can give up poaching for good. This has helped pave the path for what could finally become the most important long-term solution for tiger survival in Ranthambhore.

MOGYA HANDICRAFTS

The Mogya handicraft program is where the women from the Mogya tribe craft unique products out of handmade cotton cloth and dry grass or hay,  making these products natural & bio-degradable.These products are the unique handiwork of the women of the Mogya tribes - where no two pieces are alike. The proceeds of the sales directly go in the rehabilitation funds for the Mogya tribes. Every rehabilitated Mogya tribesman/tribeswoman is a ray of hope for the survival of Ranthambhore tigers, in the future years to come.

MOGYA EDUCATION

The Mogya Kids' Education Program was also in full swing, with Late Fateh Singhji overlooking the project himself. Since Mogiya communities are scattered, just a school would not have sufficed. So a hostel was setup with a full time guardian completely equipped with cupboards, beds, tv etc.. Such initiatives will help the new generation in over-looking forests as their only source of income.
