Chimpanzees are closely related to Humans: genetically, we are about 95% the same. Behaviorally, this similarity has obvious implications - pinch a Chimp and he will flinch away just like you would; scold him, and he would be filled with guilt; inform him of the passing away of a loved one, and he would mourn the loss; and confine him to solitary confinement, and he would become depressed, anxious and experience a complete disconnection with reality.

This particular Chimp, Pogo, was caught when an infant and confined to a cage where he could only sit or stand for years until he was rescued by conservationists at the Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Conservatory at Sweet Waters.

When he came to the camp, he had to be taught by the other monkeys to run on his hands and play. Yet, he prefers his solitude and peers back at you with heart-wrenching solemnity.
