Aranya Mitra Charitable Trust was incepted in 2006 along with Jungle Lore to conserve the Forts of Maharashtra after trekking in Sahyadris for more than a decade. These mighty Forts built/captured during the regime of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj are the last remnants of the powerful empire that once ruled the entire state. Now, in dire conditions there is a desperate need of litter management, awareness initiatives and finally conservation of these forts & forests around them.

Some of the work undertaken in the last 3 years include:

Fort cleaning drives at Lohagad, Peb, Peth, Rajgad, Torna, Visapur, Sudhagad, Harishchandragad, Gorakhgad, Ratangad, Kulang, Salher.
Organized over 100 informative slideshows on Fort & Nature conservation spread across Maharashtra as an awareness drive.
Photography Exhibition - "Unknown Maharashtra” which was inaugurated by renowned photographer & naturalist Mr Sunjoy Monga. The exhibition was viewed by more than 6000 people including renowned historian – "Shivshahir Babasaheb Purandare"
Organized a photography exhibition on wildlife – “Call of the Wild”, in September 2008, inaugurated by Senior Advocate Shree Adhik Shoridkar, Mr. Vilas Gaonkar, Head-Swami Samartha Group, Mr. Suresh Thorat – Chief Conservator of Forest, Senior Photographer Mr. Rohinton Mehta, Senior naturalist & photographer Mr. Bibhas Amonkar. The exhibition was visited by more than 4000 people.
Fishing was not a lucrative business for Mahul fishermen courtesy the polluted sea-water around Mahul. Jungle Lore’s flamingo trails in 2008 aided the Mahul fishermen by giving them alternate sources of income.
Habitat Loss and Poaching are the two main reasons for the Tiger nearing extinction. Mogiya’s are semi-nomadic community in Ranthambore that has been traditionally involved in Tiger poaching. Rehabilitation of this community is a slow, difficult but a firm process in saving the Tiger’s today. Jungle Lore is helping the Mogiya women in selling handicrafts and sponsoring Mogiya kids education
