Facts about Zanskar Valley:

1. Zanskar literally means "The land of White Copper".
2. The area remains inaccessible for nearly 8 months a year due to heavy snowfall resulting in closure of all the access passes.
3. Parts of Zanskar valley are considered some of the coldest continually inhabited places in the world.
4. The "Chaddar" (Blanket) trek in Zanskar is one of the few treks in the world on a frozen river - when the Zanskar river freezes over in February, it is possible to walk all the way on ice from Ladakh to Zangla village
5. An efficient birth-control system in Zanskar is achieved by the common practice of polyandrous marriage, in which several brothers are married to the same wife.

1. Deer are native to all continents except for Australia and Antarctica.
2. The antlers of deer are the fastest growing living tissue on earth.
3. Deer raise their tails, as a sign of warning to others.
4. The smallest member of the deer family is the pudu (Pudua humilis), native of the Chilian Andes, which is just 33 cm!
5. The only male deer that do not have antlers are Chinese water deers. The only females that do have antlers are Reindeer (Caribou).
